Ward's Ferry: The Trial

The cobalt spire pierced the night sky like a knife, spotlights from its base grasping heavenward. Illuminating the starlit atmosphere, twin full moons cast deep honey hues on the rocky ground. At the base of the spire, they congregated. The litigators, the soldiers, the aliens. The war crimes trial had been short, potent, sharp as the monolith. Ida North was sure that she was going to die. She quaked feebly in her gray prison scrubs on a raised dais, ensconced in a narrow shock barrier. She'd been standing there for four hours, not allowed to sit. Legs trembling with exhaustion, Ida's wrists were bruising from the heavy shackles that disabled her cranial implant and weakened her motor functions. The bracers were a tool to restrain the largest, toughest and most vicious of criminals. Augmented super soldiers, seven foot aliens with razor sharp claws. But she was five foot and change, eyes puffy with tears and thin shoulders slumping as her waves of stygian hair lay in tangles along

Wintermask, Ch 1...maybe

A city, north of anywhere that could be considered civilized, was nowhere to find one's fortune.  That didn't stop people though, not by a long shot.  Nestled between craggy mountains and coastal woodlands, Aeleron was as difficult to get to as it was to live in.  Thus, it was very often that people became stuck.  If you were born in Aeleron, in Aeleron you died. Most died poor. Some, though, died happy and as plump as pigs. The nobility had been dismantled, replaced by democratic councils.  It didn't seem to matter much, even without a king the nobles were still noble, disgustingly wealthy and uncaring for the masses.  But, their mone

Pact 02

PACT 02: MIDSUMMER Edward stood at the hole in the forest.  The call from the darkness within beckoned him, yet he stood his ground, staunchly refusing to enter.  The verdant mouth that lurked in a bramble wall behind trees was never in the same place.  Yet when Edward was bidden to come, he did, and he never missed his mark.  Entering was another matter, though. The trees had parted like curtains, revealing the hole.  Behind him, the sun was beginning to set.  Summer was ending, fall would arrive soon as the forest dried out in preparation for winter.  Soon, like the sun, the thorny asshole's reign would wane.  The young man in a long br
